Our Story
Why is a city girl wandering the world of jewellery? Well… it all started with an Ellie – That’s my young daughter.
When she was born (June 2019) I spent my days walking every path of every park of every borough of London as I had to find something to save my sanity. As other mothers know, life changes with a kid. You take solace in smaller achievements… like making it to and from the post office without a meltdown.
I struggled adapting to my new life. My days lacked structure, I didn’t sleep and we had issues with feeding. I had to have something in my days for me. A hobby to focus on.
What other hobby does a girl want than jewellery? Specifically, coloured gemstones. The walks continued however now coupled with hours upon hours of podcasts on coloured gemstones. Who would have known there is so much more to gems then just the standard 4C’s? (cut, colour, clarity and carat).
Ellie and I were amazed – so many gorgeous, yet relatively unknown gemstones existed! The natural vivid colours of these stones were so beautiful. As amazed as we were with the stunning array of stones available, we were equally shocked at the jaw dropping mark-ups high street jewellers were making!
On The Rocks was therefore officially launched and Ellie & I began designing high quality jewellery and selling them at very reasonable prices. We also decided that 10% of all profits made would be given to a different charity every year.
The philosophy of the On The Rocks designs is to promote the natural beauty of the coloured gemstone in an undiluted fashion so that the centre stone remains the hero. We want to promote rare gemstones which are purposely under marketed by the mainstream jewellery brands given the difficulty of securing a constant supply. We want our clients to understand and appreciate the history, composition and cut of the stones they are purchasing. And finally, we want to produce a high quality piece that the wearer will cherish and wear with confidence knowing it is absolutely unique.
Coloured gemstones – where beauty really is entirely in the eye of the beholder!
